"We wanted to build a platform to help people realise their dreams."
In a city where launching a licensed brewery demands formidable capital, complex paperwork, and years of technical training, most Hong Kongers who love craft beer settle for being admiring bystanders. Step into the hEROES Beer Co. taproom, though, and the warm drift of hops tells a different story.
Since 2017, co-founders Jason and Chris have built something the industry rarely offers: a place where loving beer is qualified enough to create it. Their KIBA 2026 Gold Medal is the latest proof that passion, taken seriously, endures.

One Dream, One Pint Opening the Craft Beer Door for Every Hong Konger
Jason and Chris came to craft beer through years of education, retail, and competition judging — and what they witnessed frustrated them. Hong Kong had no shortage of people who adored craft beer, but making your own carried an almost impenetrable entry cost. Capital requirements, licensing hurdles, and specialist equipment placed independent brewing out of reach for virtually every enthusiast who had ever raised a glass and thought, "I could make something like this."
Rather than chipping away at those barriers, they built around them. hEROES Beer Co. was conceived as a co-creation engine: a platform where any beer lover could step into the protagonist's chair, collaborate with the brewing team, and walk away with something undeniably their own. The company's official registered name says it plainly — "Once in a Lifetime, You've Got to Be a Beer Hero Limited."
The founders' insight was simple but long overlooked: people who love beer already know what they want. They may not speak in technical flavour profiles, but they can describe their preferences through memory, mood, and personal history with a precision that no certification course can replicate. hEROES was built to honour precisely that knowledge.

A Conversation Before the Brew Where Every Hero's Story Becomes a Flavour
Every hero beer begins not with malt and hops, but with a conversation. Before a single grain is weighed, the hEROES team sits down with the beer's future protagonist for a session that feels equal parts brand discovery and personality portrait. Who is your villain? What was the first beer you ever cracked open? What flavour would your nemesis reach for?
From those answers, the team maps a flavour architecture, commissions bespoke packaging artwork, and crafts something that could only ever have come from that one specific person.
"I take their dream and turn it into a beer — and make that flavour a reality."
"Every beer has a few elements: the design, the story of the hero character, and the flavour that represents all of it."

A Handful of Wrong Hops The Happy Accident That Became a Bestseller
Not every hero story arrives on schedule. "是L但 IPA" — now one of hEROES' most popular products — was born when a new team member confused hop varieties mid-brew during a training session. The resulting flavour was unplanned, unscripted, and unexpectedly brilliant. Rather than discarding the batch, the team bottled the story along with the beer.
At the brewery's fifth anniversary, the accidental recipe was relaunched as a freestyle commemorative edition: no fixed formula, vintage hops from the original harvest year, and a different drinking experience every single time a can is opened.

Sake Rice, Heritage Barley and a Gold Medal Dedication Poured Into Every Can
When Chris returned to the Japanese brewery where he had originally trained, the trip quietly became the origin of hEROES' most internationally celebrated product. "Got Rice" (有米) draws on Yamada Nishiki sake rice from Hyogo Prefecture, Kaneko Golden heritage barley revived through a regional conservation programme, and the distinctive citrus-forward Sorachi Ace hop. In 2026, it earned a Gold Medal at the Korea International Beer Awards (KIBA).
Behind the accolade lies a non-negotiable production discipline: every new recipe is refined repeatedly in the in-house lab before it moves to a larger facility for scaled brewing, ensuring the soul of a beer survives the journey from small-batch experiment to commercial release.
The Can Nobody Expected to Trust A Fight for Freshness That Changed Minds
When hEROES launched exclusively in aluminium cans in 2017, the market was sceptical. Glass bottles meant premium; cans meant compromise — and that assumption cost them sales and shelf space in the early years. The founders held firm. A properly sealed aluminium can is oxygen-impermeable and blocks UV light entirely, preserving the beer at its closest to bottling-day condition. The educational effort was slow and expensive, but the principle was not one they were willing to trade away.
"Passion is what matters most — without it, the setbacks hit differently every single day."

Empty Bars, Live Stages How a Pandemic Became hEROES' Most Creative Chapter
When COVID-19 shuttered Hong Kong's restaurants and bars, it closed every channel hEROES depended on overnight. Their response was to look outward rather than inward. They partnered with hospitality venues to transform darkened bar spaces into live-broadcast studios, hosting online music concerts that gave customers a reason to order beer delivered directly to their doors.
The loop — online engagement driving home delivery — kept revenue alive through months of restriction. It was more than a commercial workaround: it was a declaration that care for beer, and for the people who serve it, carries its own momentum.
"From the hottest craze where everyone rushed to make craft beer, to five years in — and realising how hard it actually is to build a market for good beer done right.
